SUMMARY:Protest Against US Nuclear Weapons at RAF Lakenheath
DESCRIPTION:Evidence is clear that US nuclear weapons have arrived in Britain – at the Lakenheath NATO base in Suffolk. These deadly weapons make us all a target. And they increase the risk of Britain being dragged into Trump’s reckless wars. \nClick here to sign our petition against US nukes in Britain \nThe majority of the population totally understand how these nuclear weapons don’t make us safer. That’s why a majority oppose their deployment here in Britain. \nCND calls on the government to make an urgent formal statement on their return and allow for a transparent debate and vote in Parliament. Stationing these bombs here makes Britain a target in the event of a war between NATO and Russia. \n‘Don’t make us a target!’: email your MP about US nukes in Britain \nCND supporters have repeatedly protested at RAF Lakenheath and across the country since we first heard about the possibility of US nuclear weapons coming to Britain and we will continue to do so. Anti-nuclear campaigners from Greenham Common to Lakenheath have forced the US to withdraw their nuclear weapons before\, and we now do so again. \nBook your tickets on our minibus to RAF Lakenheath to join a national protest against the continued presence of US nuclear weapons on British soil.

SUMMARY:Gentle\, Angry Women film screening with discussants
DESCRIPTION:Join the Greater Manchester & District Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for a screening of Barbara Santi’s seminal film\, Gentle\, Angry Women. \nA new generation of young female activists uncovers a powerful\, often overlooked chapter of women’s history and the alarming reality of British nuclear armament. As they navigate the complexities of teenage life and social activism\, three young women – Poppy\, Xanthe\, and Evie – embark on a journey of discovery\, following in the footsteps of over 30\,000 women who forty years earlier united in peaceful\, liberating protest\, the remarkable Greenham Common Women’s Peace Movement. \nThis coming-of-age documentary\, driven by intergenerational dialogue\, bridges past courage and present hope\, speaking to the need for action and change. \nThe Greater Manchester screening will be accompanied by discussants and maybe even a special appearance! \nSupported BFI YACF\, Cultivator Screen Growth Fund\, Good Growth Hub\, People’s Postcode Lottery and Canon UK

SUMMARY:Conscientious Objectors Day: It’s Your Right to Refuse to Fight
DESCRIPTION:Every year on May 15th we remember conscientious objectors\, both past and present. Around the world many people are imprisoned or forced to flee their home countries for refusing to join the armed forces. On May 15th we stand in solidarity with them\, as well as celebrating the memory of those throughout history who have resisted conscription. \nAcross the 2020s\, we have seen war rage in Europe and genocide take place in Palestine. Both acts of mass violence\, have seen the importance of conscientious objection raised once again\, as citizens refuse the turn to war. These brave people must be defended. \nIn Manchester\, on 15th May in Peace Gardens\, Lincoln Square\, M2 5AD\, we will be commemorating those who refuse to enlist in the armed forces by joining the international peace mobilisations. There will be readings and poems and speeches. \nAs in previous years we will have reflections. \nPlease let us know if you will bring your own reading. \nPlease also share this information widely and visit CO-Day.org to find out more about what is happening elsewhere.
