Trailblazers: International Women’s Day Celebration

An exciting day designed to celebrate and learn about some of the forgotten heroines of Manchester, including the annual Margaret Ashton lecture. This year, Dr Charlotte Wildman of the University of Manchester celebrates the life of Shena Simon (1883 – 1972), a feminist pioneer in education, housing and women’s rights.

Join us to celebrate Shena’s incredible achievements in the city of Manchester, including stalls from some of our fantastic community partners, a mini-exhibition on Shena’s life, and a wonderful display of banners and craftwork from the Trailblazers! stitching group.

A tour of the Mechanics Institute building, famous for its own radical history, will run at 1.30pm. Places for the tour is strictly limited, and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Complementary teas and coffees will run throughout the day.
